Qualcomm, the American Chip manufacturer has come up with smart wearable named Toq. While this is still a prototype, Qualcomm aims to convince leading wearable manufacturers to make use of this highly efficient Mirasol E-Ink technology in the future gadgets.

Advantages of a wearable running on Mirasol display.
  • Sunlight friendly display
  • Extremely low power consumption, powered by MEMS technology.
  • Runs for a week on a single charge, something that is missing from today’s smart phone/watch technology.
If you are unfamiliar with the name Qualcomm, they manufacture the world famous Snapdragon processor, the powerhouse behind flagships phones like Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8.

What is Mirasol display?

Mirasol is a technology used in electronic visual displays that can create various colors via interference of reflected light.

The color is selected with an electrically switched light modulator comprising a microscopic cavity that is switched on and off using driver integrated circuits similar to those used to address liquid crystal displays (LCD).

Mirasol-based reflective flat panel display includes hundreds of thousands of individual elements each a MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS)-based device.

How Mirasol Displays Work?

How many of you would buy a Mirasol powered device? This could be the future of energy efficient smart device displays, what do you think?
